The Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences — also designated as the National Cancer Center — was founded in 1958 in Beijing and stands as China's foremost cancer hospital and the command center of the country's national oncology strategy. It represents the Chinese equivalent of MD Anderson or Memorial Sloan Kettering: the institution that defines cancer care standards for 1.4 billion people.

The thoracic surgery division completes over 10,000 lung cancer resections annually — the highest volume worldwide — with particular expertise in video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and robotic segmentectomy for early-stage lung cancer. The hospital delivers every treatment modality within a single institution: surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and interventional radiology.

The hospital directs China's National Cancer Early Screening Program, which has screened millions of citizens for cervical, breast, colorectal, esophageal, liver, and lung cancers. It functions as a WHO Collaborating Center for Cancer Prevention and Control.
